Liking the Showtime Lineup

This week is the start of Showtime’s new season of series exclusively on the showtime cable channel. I have been seeing short commercials for some of them on the other cable channels, which is a smart advertising more. I don’t usually watch much on showtime but I have to admit that these new shows or new seasons of shows that I’ve not known about sound really good.

Tonight is the start of Shameless and also House of Lies. After that is the new season of Californication.

I tried watching the Californication before, but didn’t like it. What can I say? I’m not a fan of David Duchovny and the show’s storyline of a guy who is addicted to sex and drugs is not the least bit appealing to me. But I’ll be happy to watch the other two.

Dinner Out

Once of my Facebook friends has a restaurant downtown and its a little pricey, so I don’t go there. It’s more than the cost of the food. Its the drive downtown, the hassle of parking, the extra expense of gas and parking fees, and the time it takes to get there, eat and drive back. There has to be a special reason for me to want to do all that.

Maybe if he would start having songwriters come and sing, or highlight some local bands on the weekends, I would be more inclined to make the effort to go downtown and patronize his place.

But there are plenty of really good restaurants out here near my house, with free parking at the door and good food. So the downtown places are going to have to do something to make themselves special.

Long Hair is Overrated

I have really long hair and sometimes I get so tired of fixing it all the time. I have to wash it at least every other day and I buy the best quality hair products to keep it healthy and shiny. I have a drawer full of hair accessories that I hardly ever use. Maybe I should start putting it up and using a curling iron again. They say long hair is so easy, but I disagree. To keep it looking nice you have to spend a lot of time and money on your long hair. It’s the women who have really short hair who have it easy!

Nothing Looks Good

I’m hungry and need to cook up some dinner. I went to the grocery store on Monday and spent almost $200. So I have a lot of food in the house. The refrigerator is full, the freezer is full and the pantry shelves are full. But nothing looks good to me. All this food is boring and the same old thing. I think I am just getting sick of my own cooking.

Sweet Tooth

The best thing about October is the fact that we have Halloween and get lots of candy. I have one serious sweet tooth. I remember my mother telling me that I would have rotten teeth if I didn’t stop eating so much candy as a kid. Well, my teeth are pretty good, despite all that candy. I guess I have good, strong genes for the tooth and bones that I enjoy.

Nightgown

Coming to bed means different things to different people. I like to wear a pretty nightgown to bed – whether I’m sleeping alone or if I have “company.” But some people wear old tee shirts or flannel pajamas to bed every night. That sounds so boring to me! Who wants to look at a pretty girl in an old teeshirt every night? Its not that hard to find a couple of pretty nightgowns and look nice while sleeping.

Who Sang That?

Why does radio play all the music with no introductions or no announcements at the end so you know the name of the song and the band who sang it? This is so frustrating to listen for 20 minutes in the car and have no idea who sangs all the songs you just heard. It makes me want to start a radio station and hire disk jockeys who will talk and give you information instead of those infantile guys in the mornings who use third grade humor to “entertain” everyone stuck in traffic.

Dust Bunnies

One of the big differences between caring for carpet instead of a hardwood floor is that the carpet traps all the dust and dirt so you need to vacuum it. The hardwood floors tend to just blow the dust around. So I use a mop on my hardwood floors to keep the dust bunnies under control. Sometimes I wish we could use one of those Shark steam mops, but I don’t see how those things get the dirt and dust bunnies up. I mean, its one thing to steam clean a floor – it’s quite another to remove clumps of dirt, dust or animal hair.

Today would have been my big brother’s birthday. He was a really cool dude, but cancer got him.

As kids we would play all kinds of games together – anything from Monopoly to chess. He played the piano to relax – he was really good at it. My favorite piece of music that he rawked was “Flight of the Bumblebee.” Thankfully I don’t hear that very often or I would probably burst into tears thinking about him.

Turn It The Fuck Down!

Some jackass drove by my house this morning with his windows down and his sound system blaring way too loud. In this heat he should have the windows up and his air conditioning blasting – not his stereo. It’s probably broken and he can’t afford to get the A/C fixed. But he can sure drive around with his ghetto blaster bothering everybody. I love music and all, but not his damn music!

Redbox Love

I do love me some Redbox. I can go in either direction from my house and hit up a Redbox within 5 minutes. For only a dollar, I can get 2 hours of fun times in a box for about 24 hours. Now that’s a bargain.

Too Fucking Hot

OK – I know its summer. I know it’s supposed to be hot. But this 100 plus degrees every day is too fucking hot! They said with humidity and all that, we had a “feels like” temperature of 125 today. No way!
